Having Fun at Club Wax
As I sat down to enjoy a delicious cup of instant noodles, which is very popular in Taiwan by the way, I was bombarded by a group of my hall mates yelling at me saying, “We’re late, we’re late!” Apparently, a guy named Josh, from Oklahoma, was going out with a bunch of people for his birthday. I successfully ate about a quarter of my noodles before being rushed out the door to Club Wax. We ran outside and it was pouring rain so we opted to take a cab to the club. Cabs are so cheap in Taiwan! It was about $3 US to get there.
Wednesday nights at Club Wax is an International Students Night, so girls only paid about $3 US and guys paid about $11 US for unlimited drinks and dancing. Inside, it was very nice and air-conditioned. One thing I didn’t particularly like was that smoking was allowed inside the building, whereas in the States, smoking is only allowed outside. We got there kind of early so there weren’t that many people there but when 11pm rolled around, it was PACKED. They played mostly American music, but I could tell their selection was very limited because they played the Justin Timberlake song at least three times! I thought it was very interesting that a club in Taiwan would play American hip-hop rather than Taiwanese hip-hop.
I got to meet more people on my program and experience how the night life is like in Taiwan. We danced until the wee hours of the morning and got back to our dorm at around 3am, tired and very deaf. If you ever visit Taiwan, watch out for the cab drivers. Some drivers, who know that you're a foreigner will take advantage of you which is what happened to us that night. Since we don't know the city very well, the driver pretended to get lost so we ended up paying more than we were supposed to. That's just something to look out for. But nevertheless, I had a great time! I woke up and my ears were still ringing. It felt like someone had shoved cotton balls all the way down my ears. Overall, I had a very fun night and it was definitely worth the permanent damage to my hearing.

Do you think they might have been playing American music because it was International Student night? I'd be curious about that, also, have you heard Taiwanese hip-hop? If so can you let me know who their artists are and where I can hear it? Thanks, have a great time.
